HOW TO DO FASHION THE FUSION WAY?

I’m not talking sarees with pants or saree blouses with paisley printed minis – as visually appealing as they may be, they’re a bit extreme for everyday wear. Trust me. But then again the early 2000s trend of pairing a kurta with jeans just doesn’t do justice to ‘fusion’ anymore. So if you're wondering what’s new, everyday-wardrobe appropriate but with a hint of stand-out-from-the-crowd, - here are a couple of ideas you can borrow:

Easy Doesn’t Mean Lazy!

Styling a fusion ensemble can be time-consuming, I agree. So why not make things really simple – pick something that automatically says fusion, without you having to do much. Don’t worry, no one will call you lazy!

This maxi dress with embroidery work (that reminds me of those Rajasthani-style cushion covers) is an easy choice. I mean there’s literally nothing to do except slip into it! It screams fusion! You could pair it with beaded accessories, a pair of juthis or gladiators and ta-dah you're ready! See how I styled it:

Accessorize Accordingly.

Even the simplest of at-home outfits can be spruced up to look ‘fashionably fusion-able’ with the right accessories. Wooden beady accessories could be one way to go but chunky oxidised silver jewellery is a clear winner. This outfit is literally a pair of ‘Om’ printed pajamas I wear at home with a white long tube top. But with these accessories, it changes completely:

Playing With Prints!

India has one of the richest collections of print stories – think Rangoli inspired, paisley prints, Madhubani work, classic elephants and peackocks – there’s so much to choose from! A western silhouette in a desi print - I mean, what more could a fusionista ask for? This jumpsuit is one of my faves when it comes to going fusion!

'Short' Cut

5 years ago, nobody in their right mind would wear shorts with a kurta. But today, it’s done and it looks fantastic! Here’s a fusion look that is a bit out there, but easily achievable - a pair of shorts with a paisley printed kaftan top, ethnic sandals and chunky embellished jewellery. It’s perfect! Really!

Combine It All

Okay, here’s how mixology applies in fashion – combine ‘em all - desi prints, the right accessories, western silhouettes and see what you get!
