ETHNIC ENSEMBLES? OFFICE OUTFITS.

What does a long kurta mean to you?

Comfort wear? Office wear? Ethnic Wear? Take your pick!

For most of us, it’s all the above, but in a different order. The first and most direct association is with traditional Indian fashion. Second comes comfort and third, office wear.

Why though? I mean, a pencil skirt is essentially ‘western’, but we all think of it first and foremost. as formal office wear.

Unfortunately, despite being a popular choice of outfit for workplaces, the kurta is yet to overcome its stereotypical image. However, one style has braved the throng, made it past the cynical fashion police and public naysayers – the straight cut maxi kurta.

And in the past year, it’s come to become one of my favourite ethnic options to wear at work. It’s sleek and elegant, easy to move around in and presents versatile styling options.

So, I decided to share a few different takes on my favourite ethnic style - the straight cut long kurta.

Also, you know I can't resist giving out some fashion gyaan, so here goes:

1 KURTA. 5 STYLES:

A choice between crisp and flowy:

An elegant long kurta with beautiful vibrant prints like this one, can be worn with either crisp cigarette pants or paired with a palazzo. I’ve worn it with black bottoms, which makes it work appropriate. But playing around with bold colours like magenta or teal will surely catapult this piece into the partywear category.

Leggings always come to the rescue:

This one’s a no-brainer. Who doesn’t wear leggings with kurtas. Be it to work or on a casual day out, it’s a go-to look!

Double maxi:

Though I can’t say I’m fond of this trend, it is quite popular. Centre slit cape like kurtas are a good match for maxi skirts, but a straight fit, just doesn’t cut it for me.

However, for those who love this style, (depending on the kind of prints and details on it) you can wear it for a simple day function or an elaborate wedding event. But…tbh it wouldn’t be my first or last choice!

Choose a cape:

One of the styles I’ve been itching to try out is pairing my new maxi length, black sleeveless cape with this kurta. I’m excited to see how the printed sleeves of the kurta play with the sleeveless element of the cape. Watch out for a picture on Instagram @100outfitsayear

The cropped way:

Fall 2016 has brought ethnic crop jackets into the average woman’s wardrobe. Inspired by runway trends, this style is currently all the rage when it comes to ethnic wear. Since, it has just entered the playing field, fashion gurus are yet to make ‘rules’ pertaining to its use. So, go crazy! Wear it to a party or at work, no one’s judging just yet! :p
