Styling a sweater over a plaid button down is a fail-proof classic that speaks of simplicity, comfort (and sophistication, if you’re going for a monochrome palette).
People who have a dominant workaholic trait or are sticklers for organisation and order usually prefer this style. There are two ways to approach a classic statement as this: the v-neck sweater or the crew/round neck sweater.
Needless to say, with a crew neck you button up the shirt, leaving only the collar open and the tips tucked into the sweater. But with a v neckline, leave the top few unbuttoned on the shirt to mimic the sweater’s neck.

Don’t compromise on the fit of the shirt or sweater. Just because the shirt is barely seen, doesn’t mean its role in defining your figure is unimportant. Also, a baggy sweater doesn’t lend the professional touch to the outfit
Tuck in your shirt for formal occasions and leave it out only if it has a ‘U’ cut hem
Show some cuff, if you’re rolling up the shirt
Only one of the two should be patterned, i.e a plaid sweater or a plaid shirt. Also try to match the sweater to a shade on the shirt
What I love most about this outfit is the chic colour combination of the crop sweater with a pair of high-
waist, black, skinny-jeans that show off a 3-button centre placket with a chunky knit scarf and boots! It sounds heavy, but it’s perfectly cosy and stylish for a long busy day in the chilly winter air.
Also, I’ve hinted at a chic monochrome palette in the outfit, but the touch of grey adds so much meaning to the ensemble. Grey isn’t a sign of 'conservativeness' or boredom, but rather signifies depth to one’s personality, showing that they’ve been through a lot in life to be able to appreciate the colour. It reflects maturity & practicality, responsibility & dependability and a lot more.
