FASHION FROM FICTION

Marilyn Monroe might have been first to publicize it, but Disney’s most popular celebrity, Cinderella, deserves due credit for proving to us all that ‘Given the right shoes, a girl can conquer the world’ – not just Prince Charming’s heart!

Fairy-tale princesses from our childhood days have taught us more about fashion and style than we may care to realise. In fact, I’m quite convinced that they are the ones truly responsible for shaping up today’s fashionistas.

It’s almost funny when you think about it, but we started playing dress up as little girls and never really stopped since. The only difference is, now instead of princesses, we emulate celebrities. Either way, every fashion lover’s core knowledge is built from the genius advice given by Disney’s most exclusive club of Fashion Experts.

While Cinderella educated us in the ways of stilettos, Tarzan’s Jane made kitten heels trendy! Leaving Snow White, Jasmine, Belle and the others to cover up the rest:

Snow White (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs):

Red lipstick can get you through the toughest of days

Sleeping Beauty:

Dress well, even while you’re sleeping

Belle (Beauty and the Beast):

Don’t be afraid to put on bold colours, especially yellow

Jasmine (Aladdin):

Even the simplest outfits can be made stylish with accessories

Ariel (The Little Mermaid):

Redheads look great in all colours, anyone who says otherwise is just jealous

Rapunzel:

A stylish hair-do takes requires patience, but it’s always worth the wait

Unfortunately these princesses, while huge influencers of personal style, also emphasized the notion that we courageous and beautiful young ladies need rescuing from princes, knights and even thieves, as long as they were handsome men!

So today, we look upon the new age Disney royals like Merida, Elsa and Anna to lend us a tip or two about fashion and life!

Merida (Brave):

A full head of curls is an asset. It doesn’t need to be tamed with hair straighteners. Plus, you don’t need a king’s son to shoot your arrows, be independent and brave!

Elsa (Frozen):

You can achieve anything, if you dress for it. And so she did, in a sparkling blue gown. It’s no easy feat building a grand palace out of ice!

Anna (Frozen):

Winter clothing can be bright, colourful and super stylish. Also, be fearless and optimistic not a damsel in distress. Anna set out all by herself to save her sister and her kingdom.

Remember ladies, fashion is a powerful tool, but it’s nothing without the right attitude!
