WHERE DO I FIT IN A WORLD OF PANT-LOVERS?

In a world of pant-lovers, wearing a skirt is a bold move indeed. Making a completely random claim, with no statistical background whatsoever, I’d say that 1 in 10 girls wear skirts, out of choice. Whether you’re going out on a weekend or heading in to office, we are undoubtedly surrounded by jeans, trousers, palazzos – you name it! Makes me wonder what everyone has against skirts… and it boils down to two things always: Length and Comfort (both of which are arguable cases)

Laying the cards on the table:

- When it comes to length, if shorts don’t make you squeamish, why should skirts? Especially with maxis and midis back in trend!

- Comfort and ease can just as well be ruled out as ‘hate-criteria’, when we’ve got the likes of pleated, flared and umbrella skirts.

So, taking a different approach, say, evaluating the emotional response rather than looking at practicality, led me down a different path. SKIRTS define femininity, it’s the one thing we don’t have in common with men, when it comes to clothing. (leaving cultural/historical references out of the picture) Hell, they even had heels before us!

Now, while my love for smart cut trousers and jeans is on par with the next person, I simply adore skirts. This Aztec print mini is one of my favourite thrifted pieces from Bombay. (It isn’t a knock off, but very similar to something I spotted at Zara, in cut-texture-print; the only difference is mine has a zero less on the price tag).

If you’re wondering what a 2012 trend is doing out and about in 2016, let me tell you Aztecs are going to be back in vogue, before you know it. With the Boho-trend well along the way, it’s only a matter of time before it circles the world, taking it’s pick of prints from different tribes and cultures, coming back to where it started: Aztec. Yeah, fashion is cyclic – the sooner you understand it, the better shopping choices you’ll make.

Speaking of choices, those who are bold enough to wear skirts to work, still remain conservative when it comes to prints. Dare to stray away from tweed, plaid, pleats and spice it up with Aztec! How to style the print for work wear?

  1. Go for monochrome instead of bold hues.

  2. Pair it with solid coloured blouses/button downs in dark shades – maroon/black/jade.

  3. You can even go for a plain tee with a casual cropped jacket/blazer
