Climate tends to play a role in the clothes we buy and the choices we make while shopping. Of course, you all know that - on some basic level at least. For example, a perennially hot climate calls for shorts and summer dresses, whereas rainy weather warrants vinyl coats and water proof boots. These are the basic ‘common sense’ aspects of clothes shopping.
But putting some thought and evaluating decisions on the kinds of colours, fabrics and pairings worn, at different seasons during the year, shows a depth that may not have crossed your mind.
On some level, we want to connect with the world around us, be on the same page, if you will and often, it is fashion that enables us to strike a frequency match.
‘Autumn Uniform’ is a play on autumnal colours – dried leaves in warm tones of russet and ochre, dark brown tree barks offset by the dulcet skies and orange hues borne from early evening sunsets. For many of us, this is exactly the kind of image autumn conjures up in our minds: a tree-lined boulevard with orange and red leaves strewn about the pathway. (Yes, I agree, it might have something to do with the popular Microsoft screensaver)
This ensemble, works with the seasonal mood in more ways than one, creating a warm and cozy vibe that is desirous in fall, with a tan corduroy skirt, a russet knit top and a white crochet shrug worn with brown leather brogues. It’s not only the subconscious choice of colours, but also the texture of fabrics that creates the autumnal essence in this outfit.
So you see how fashion symbolically connects us to nature and makes us belong, to something bigger…
