YES, IT’S A DRESS! (SWEATER WEATHER SERIES)

The second in the ‘Sweater Weather’ series is a personal favourite that was gifted to me by a very dear friend: A deep purple sweater dress.

Despite its versatility and ability to make an incredible fashion statement, the sweater dress isn’t all that popular. Here’s hoping that the following few statements can get rid of any misconceptions and apprehensions associated with it!

Winter fashion is all about creative layering; which is quite cumbersome when you consider the numerous coats and jackets that need shedding whenever you enter a place. A simple sweater dress is perfect to maintain the formality required of a workplace environment, but still warm and comfortable while allowing easy movement sans the million layers. And that’s not even the best part! Wear it to work by day and convert it into a winter night party outfit in seconds. All you need is a change of accessories and footwear, maybe a casual jacket and you’re good to go!

A sweater dress says you live a balanced life – work hard, party hard; you are smart, confident, professional and enjoy paying importance to your appearance. In a purple sweater dress, you can make an even better impression – as a stable person, comfortable in her skin, confident in her abilities and at peace with herself. Purple is the union of strength and energy reflected by red with the calm and positivity of blue.

Really, there shouldn’t be a thing stopping you from wearing it anymore.

But there’s a common misconception about sweater dresses being only for ‘modelesque’ figures, which I’d like to clear out. Yes, most of them are form-fitting and do look a tad stretched out on some body types – if you’re comfortable with that, good for you! If not, there’s a simple solution. Make sure the dress is midi length and paired with a crop jacket, this elongates your frame and then cuts it at the waist, giving an illusion of a very flattering figure.
